Awesome food really fast! Brisket with sweet bbq sauce is yummy and their homemade potatoe chips are one of my favorites. Tried the cheesy potatoes today and they were tasty! The whole family enjoyed and even tried new things (which doesn't happen with a 13 year old, 5 year old and 4 year old) and everybody left full and happy. Definitely coming back and worth every penny

One thing I tend to crave when I am stateside is BBQ. While I love trying new foods and have other favorite types of cuisines when I am abroad, the two foods I miss the most while on an extended stint abroad: BBQ and Mexican. A good pulled pork has to be on my top 5 favorite meals... although a bad pulled pork can be a real bummer. We had tried BBQ This in June just before I left for the UK and it was pretty good. I do like their pulled pork, but in my pulled-pork-eating history it isn't my favorite. There were a number of sides to choose from and since my aunt and dad were buying pints of some of the different sides for our family lunch, I decided to use my two sides to try some things that they were not going to order. So, I tried the apple cobbler and the potato salad. Apple cobbler was far too sweet for me and someone at the table ate it, but it sure wasn't me. And the potato salad was ok, but again, not my favorite. We also had cheesy potatoes (pretty delicious), sausage (also pretty good), corn bread (the batch we had was a bit dry), and chicken (I didn't get to taste it). On this most recent visit, I had been asked what I wanted for lunch and of course BBQ came out of my mouth. We stopped at BBQ this to pick up lunch for us and my brother. This time I decided to venture away from the Pulled Pork and go with the Beef Brisket Sandwich with BBQ Beans and Coleslaw. My dad and brother both had their usuals, so nothing new there. The Beef Brisket was quite thick, also quite dry. Dipped in sauce, it isn't too bad, but it made me wish that I had stuck to the safe option. BBQ Beans were delicious and so was the Coleslaw! Overall, happier with my sides than my sandwich. While I agree that it isn't the best BBQ place out there, it is pretty decent and affordable.

Food was good. Service was stupid. Asked employee if half-chicken dinner was all white meat. He asked his manager, who said yes. We recieved a half a chicken, with leg and wing still attached (dark meat). We pointed this out, were first told that if you cut into it it will be white. We explained that that wasnt how it works and requested to speak to the manager. He told us that the box they come in is labeled 100 percent white meat, and that they were told to tell customers that the chicken was as such. I feel this shows a lack of proper training and knowledge on their behalf, and I hope the owner looks into this. Doesn't seem good. Food was ok though.

BBQ This is a hit n' miss sort of place. Early in its history, the menu was average if not worth repeated visits. The brisket and ribs were good and the sides were typical of low end BBQ joints; salty and fatty. Never up to real BBQ standards, BBQ This was still a good, if mediocre, choice for the BBQ desert that is Cedar Rapids. Best for take out orders because the restaurant atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. Recent visits, however, indicate a real decrease in quality. Meats are dry and tasteless and service, never very good, has gone downhill as well. Perhaps it was an off day. I am willing to try again simply because there is no other choice in town. If you really want to experience good BBQ in Iowa you need to go to Ames, Iowa and enjoy a great BBQ meal at Hickory Park Restaurant.

BBQ-This can be loud! We were there on what someone behind the counter called a "slow night", and still everything echoed so terribly that people had to shout to talk to each other, making it even worse. Not enough booths (chairs are fine, but booths should be a little more abundant), and really no atmosphere. There is nothing romantic or relaxing about this place, so be sure not going for that. However, the staff was friendly and everything (tables, sauce counter, soft-drink fountain) was clean. As for the food, only two chicken selections existed (half a chicken or wings, both very expensive), no sides were standard (all part of even more expensive "meal" options and corn bread ALWAYS extra), just missing some standard BBQ Joint fare like corn on the cob. The food was decent though. The ribs were good. The cheesy potatoes side was tasty (similar to HyVee's party potatoes) and the apple crisp was delicious (but not above average). The wings were disappointing as none of the sauces were really right for them. The most disappointing for me: the "mild" and "spicy" sauces tasted almost the same. The spicy was not nearly spicy enough, and the mild may be too spicy for some. They could have put the wrong sauce in the wrong containers (the two were so similar I was almost sure of it), but even that would deserve some criticism. I felt the prices were a little high for the portions we received; we definitely would have had extra food to take home if we had spent the same amount of money at one of our favorite other restaurants. I understand that some other BBQ joints (not in Cedar Rapids) charge as much for food, but those also have much better food, selection, and atmosphere. Basically, it's fine for a big noisy group or a bunch of guys or co-workers who don't plan on talking much. A gathering of large families planning to push the tables together should especially consider this place, as the $20+ family combos look like they might be slightly better value. Our visit was fine, but I won't be going back here unless someone invites me and is paying.

BBQ This is the new kid on the block for Cedar Rapids BBQ - it's been open roughly four months as of May 2006. The ribs are delicious - tender, meaty, and smoked to perfection. The only reason I don't rate higher is because of zero atmosphere - it's located in a strip mall, and the interior still feels a bit empty/blank. On the plus side, portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and they're just getting off the ground. I tried four sides - baked beans, potato salad, cheesy potatoes and apple crisp. The potato salad was bland. Apple crisp and baked beans, however, were tasty. Hooray for BBQ fans in Eastern Iowa!

Its pricey but the food is delicious. We don't dine here alot as there really isn't table service. You stand in line get your food like at a Subway. There is a drink fountain so you can help yourself to that as well as sauces. Nice place to eat not fancy but have always had great food. I recommend the cheesy potatoes and apple crisp as well as the beef brisket and turkey.

I really like their pulled pork or brisket with their spicy bbq sauce. I also recommend their apple crisp for one of your sides, it is a solid dessert! Last time I came in (Memorial Day) their tables were all dirty, they were out of ice and some other things which was a bit surprising since they had at least 3 people working. The girl behind the counter was a bit rude. It was not a great visit! But, the food was good....

I came in town from California and this was the first stop for lunch. Love me some BBQ and I travel to the best BBQ houses in the country and have to say that this place is really good! I had beef brisket sandwich, cheesy potatoes and baked beans, highly recommended!

This is a straight up BBQ joint and it feels like it. It's pretty good prices for BBQ they also have a very nice selection of sides. I recommend the corn bread served with honey poured over top.

Nice looking bbq joint. Clean. But I ordered a 1/2 rack and two sides and the best part was the mac and cheese. The ribs were bland and dry and the sauce was not good. Looked like canned sauce that comes off the food service truck. Nice place not good bbq

Visiting from Texas I have a high standard for BBQ. It was just ok here. Homemade chips are wayyyyyyyyy too salty, the beans were nice and the cheesy potatoes needed salt urgently! Brisket was thick and the sausage was bland. Needs improvement in the food, but the staff were great!

I didn't even finish my meal, this is basic at best. The BBQ is dry, sauce is mediocre, sides are blah. Not really a BBQ place that will wow you or leave you wanting more. Would not recommend this place, better off cooking it yourself rather than coming here.

The Good: their mild barbecue sauce is great! Service is usually pretty fast and quick, and they have a great variety. There is usually a coupon on sweet jacks, or if you go for lunch you can catch a good deal. Their wings and cornbread (when it's warm) are awesome! Room to improve: Their staff usually seems young and unhelpful. Also, the food quality can very from time to time when you visit, specifically the side dishes. They seem to sell out of some items at times as well so if your looking for something specific like ribs, I would call ahead.

It has cooked meat that you can put canned sauce on.

BBQ This! is some of the best BBQ in CR Locally owned and operated lil place out in a strip mall. And they now how to cook. I crave it, and need to frequent often to get my fix. Meats are done right and great sauces you can add too. Corn bread is awesome (w/honey butter on top) and their own chips are great, and the cheesy potatoes are envious. All their sides are good for that matter and the kids' chicken strips are the best strips I've had. And the mac&cheese is hearty and delicious. I typically get the pulled pork (w/out the bun so you get an free corn bread instead) and the cheesy potatoes and chips. Then I load it up with onions and spicy sauce (they keep warm). Very filling. They cater too and you can get various family to-go orders in packaged deals that are well worth it. They have a few flat screens up and seating for 30ish.

If you've ever eaten real BBQ stay away. Bland and boring. I really hate giving bad reviews but it's really mediocre at best.

We live close to this place so decided to try it out. Well, it just doesn't taste fresh which is surprising since the only thing Iowa has going for it is the corn, soybeans, and beef. You would think they have plenty of access to fresh beef. We ordered to go a slab of ribs. It was not made fresh but taken from a heated area. The mac and cheese we got was so tiny. It looked like a small side you get from KFC's. It was not enough for two people. My coworker loves this place so go figure. To each their own.

I love this place! The amount was perfect - I didn't feel completely stuffed - and the prices were great. The sides are really good; there's a pretty decent selection. The service is great, too; they're really fast and friendly. I moved away, but I always go to BBQ this when I visit family in CR!

I've had lunch here many times and we always go on Wednesday for the special - BBQ brisket sandwich topped with melted provolone and onion strings. It comes with 1 side and a drink for $6.99. The brisket we had wasn't their best effort, very dry. It took extra dosing with sauce just to get it down it. They're usually more consistent and Ive had good luck with their catering - always well received. There's a subtle aroma of BBQ smoke in the air when you walk in. The only downside is the meat doesn't take on much of a smoky flavor. My local favorite is still Tic Toc on Friday and Saturday nights. That's when they have the wood smoker fired up. That dude can do a mean 'que!

Overall, very good, though nothing is so spectacular it knocks your socks off. I am a little put off by the small-ish portion and high prices, but then pretty much every bbq place is like this. I'd definitely vote for the cheesy potatoes and apple crisp. The cornbread is good, too.

I have eaten here twice now and I can officially say that the food is just alright. I recently ordered the ribs and they come dry, which means no sauce. Which is alright but they are generally supposed to taste good that way too. They tasted like sand paper, pretty rough and super dry. The only way I could eat my entire order was if I soaked it in one of their sauces which to their credit were very good sauces. I ordered the Mac and Cheese, and Apple Crisp for side dishes and both were pretty good. My son ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the meat was dry as well. We were just thankful that the sauce was good.

Pretty decent place! I thought the prices were fair and the sides were really tasty! Boyfriend and I both ended up ordering the same thing: 2 meat combo both with brisket and pulled pork. I almost got the half slab of ribs, but when the sign says "best seller" , I order the best seller :) We both agreed that the brisket was not as juicy or tender as we've made at home but that pulled pork was indeed delicious! I tried all three of the sauces: sweet, mild and spicy. They were all good (and they serve them warm....LOVE THAT!) but my favorite ended up being a combination of mild and spicy together. They weren't the most "complex" tasting sauces, but they weren't bland. Thick and rich tasting. Our sides were really yummy: I had mac and cheese (me= mac and cheese addict) and coleslaw. Boyfriend got mac and cheese also and cheesy potatoes. I think they stole my mom's cheesy potatoes recipe because they tasted exactly the same! I.e SUPER AWESOME. Their cornbread was way good, and that is coming from cornbread's less-than-loyal advocate. They have some good beers on tap (Sam's Adams seasonal, yay!) and of course fountain sodas, iced teas, etc. The atmosphere was nice; I liked the style of the decor, the seating was comfortable, the restrooms were clean, and the service was friendly! They featured a special most days, and I grabbed a catering menu...just in case :) We'll be back!!

Not very good BBQ. My son-in-law loves the hot wings. The pulled-pork is good, but I find the ribs very disappointing.

I was in town visiting family & had lunch here. All I can say is yummmmm. Amazing pulled meat, delicious sides, great service & really reasonable prices. They also do catering. If I lived closer I would eat here all the time.

Yum! Hard to complain about anything with this delicious place. It's so nice to have a place with quick service & especially an easy place to pick up takeout dinner for the family. I find this place very affordable & I'm always more than satisfied with the portions.

This is a decent BBQ joint, especially for Cedar Rapids, which doesn't boast a ton of places that offer that kind of thing. The food is hit or miss depending on the day, but has always been decent when work has brought it in.

BBQ This! is a locally owned 'cue restaurant in Cedar Rapids with not much competition, and unfortunately I think this is what makes people rave about it. While I believe they are trying to fill the mostly empty space in CR which is decent BBQ, it's a smokehouse without much experience. The sauce, while trying to be KC style, seems more like "sweet 'n sour sauce" and the meat is generally flavor free without much smoke or seasoning. The brisket was a watered down pot roast in my opinion and the pulled pork wasn't much to rave about either (I always hope for a mustard based sauce and some slaw on a pork sandwich) but their choice of bun to serve on was acceptable. The potato chips were bland and hard, but I did enjoy the potato salad. Al and Irene's or Nikki's BBQ are both better choices if your going to try locally owned BBQ to have some decent smoked meat in CR. Hopefully BBQ This! will improve and not try to satisfy the bland 'cue taste buds Iowans tends to have.

The pancheros version of BBQ and the ultimate, fast southern comfort food. A two-side meal is a lot of food and a great value. You get multiple main dish options, (ribs, pulled pork/beef sandwiches, etc.), and multiple side options (corn bread, chips, cheesy potatoes, mac and cheese, baked apple crisp, baked beans, etc.). The meat has been great every time I've been there and the cheesy potatoes are highly recommended.

Holla! BBQ This is on my short list. I like the cheesy potatos and the apple crisp. This place is like a home-cooked meal to me (most other restaurant food seems like a mass product). They serve quality meats. They have a neat pickle bar where you can get peperoncini and pour on the Mild or HOT barbecue sauce. p.s.: Vegetarians - go somewhere else!

Was in Cedar Rapids for business and I asked the front desk guy where I should go for some good bbq and he suggested BBQ This. Let me just say he did not steer me wrong! After reading the menu online I decided to put together my own little sampler of food. At BBQ This you can order some meats by the pound. So I ordered a quarter pound of pulled pork which was in my opinion the highlight of my dinner! I wished I would have ordered a whole pound of just the pulled pork it was so good! I mixed their Spicy and Sweet sauces to make a great blend! I also ordered a half rack of ribs which were smoked to perfection! I usually do not care for smoked meats but they did an excellent job of making it just the right amount. I also ordered a dozen of the Spicy wings. I could have done without them to be honest. A little too fatty and not deep fried so it made it seem even fattier. I highly suggest this place but skip the wings!
